The CyberKnife located in East Texas fulfills a dream shared by East Texas physicians and patients alike: the ability to destroy even small, complex-shaped tumors near critical structures, virtually anywhere in the body, without destroying healthy tissues—or the patient’s quality of life.

That dream is now a reality, with CyberKnife of Texas, the first CyberKnife stereotactic radiosurgery unit in East Texas. It is so precise, it can target tumors with submillimeter accuracy, delivering a very high dose of radiation to lesions while sparing nearby normal tissue. CyberKnife can be used to attack tumors not only in the head, but also in the chest, abdomen, and back—virtually anywhere in the body.

More About the Technology

The CyberKnife takes the existing technology of radiosurgery, which previously had only certain neurological applications, to improved levels of accuracy, speed, flexibility and patient comfort.

  • Accuracy: Technology derived from cruise missile guidance systems allows radiation to target a tumor with submillimeter precision. The system is computercoordinated to correct for any motion, including the patient’s respiration.
  • Speed: Thanks to advanced lightweight robotics, radiation is delivered rapidly from a wide variety of angles.
  • Flexibility: CyberKnife technology makes it possible to treat tumors all over the body—not just the head. Also, physicians can deliver fractionate or staged doses when that is desirable.
  • Patient comfort: In neurological cases, CyberKnife is far more comfortable than the older system of attaching a stereotactic frame to the patient’s head. Yet the accuracy is comparable if not superior to frame-based systems.
